Couse Overview
The course is for anyone wanting to learn how to recognise and care for people with life-threatening injuries before the arrival of healthcare practitioners. It is also for people who require first aid training as part of their job. This course is the new recognised standard for Occupational First Aid within the workplace as per the Health & Safety Authority.
Prerequisites
There are currently no prerequisites for this course. Attendees should be physically well enough to carry out CPR as well as other practical skills, such as attempting to relieve the blockage in someone who is choking, placing somebody in the recovery position and putting bandages on injured limbs.
Requirements
First Aid Responder (FAR) is a new training standard developed by the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council of Ireland (PHECC). The objective of FAR is to improve, and replace the current Occupational First Aid course and have a standardised syllabus nationwide. FAR also includes the full Cardiac First Response Community standard.
The course is facilitated by an instructor who will use PowerPoint presentation and DVD’s to guide you through the course. The course is delivered in English. Please contact us if you require the program to be delivered in a different language.
Duration & Assessment
The FAR course will take no less than 18 hours of training time. This can be broken down to three six hour days or can be delivered one day per week for three weeks.
Certification
Upon successful completion of this course, attendees will be issued with a certificate from the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC). This certificate will be valid for 2 years from the date of test.
Refresher Certification – Important Information
In order to maintain your qualification after your two-year certification period you will be required to undertake a refresher course. The refresher course consists of a two-day course designed to refresh the knowledge and skills you learned from your initial training. You must have a valid First Aid Response certificate in order to partake of this course. PHECC allows a 30 day grace period past the expiry date to rebook your two day refresher.
If you are applying to sit a two day FAR refresher course for the first time you will need to present us with your original QQI Level 5 cert from your Occupational First Aid Novice three day course AND all subsequent one day refresher certs from a training provider with a registered OFAAC Instructor name and registration number on the cert. You will be allowed a 90 days grace period on your last cert past the expiry in this case.
