This is a one-day course designed to provide the participants with the knowledge to deal with fires on an emergency basis. It emphasises the dangers of fire, the importance of prevention and the necessity of  urgent action when a fire breaks out

On completion of the course participants will be able to:

  • Understand the physics and chemistry of fire.

  • List the actions to be taken in the event of fire.

  • Take a control lead in an emergency evacuation.

  • Be aware of the different types of fire fighting equipment.

This is a classroom presentation , handouts , training records and evaluation forms are used.

Course Content - Theoretical Training

  • Discuss relevant statutory legislation and its requirements.
  • Causes and costs of fires
  • Understanding fires.
  • Physics and chemistry of fire.
  • Development and spread of fires.
  • Action in the event of a fire or fire alarm activation.
  • Tackling a fire.
  • Choosing the correct extinguisher for the job.
  • Correct use of  the fire extinguisher.
  • Means of raising the alarm and calling the fire brigade.
  •  Evacuation Procedures.
  • Role of the Fire Warden.
